This little gem of book is full of LOVE, loyalty, friendship, discovery, and first sexual experiences. It is about what it truly means to be a mom and how one mom loves her son without any conditions or boundaries. It is also about a son who struggles to care for his mom as her mind is eaten away by dementia and about having someone to catch and hold you as your wold falls apart.

I laughed and yes I cried when reading this book. Anthony and Charlie are beautiful souls and, you will love how much they truly love and look out for each other. The part where Charlie’s mom gives Anthony a book and the rainbow analogy is enough to melt even the Grinch’s heart. Do something nice for yourself and read this book. It will leave you with a smile and believing in the power of love, rainbows and stars.

i liked it very very much i wish it was longer, but oh well. i’ll take what i can get
This is a sweet coming age romance. Life is hard but it is easier when you are loved.

This novella shows that perfect in a friends to lovers trope that charms.

A quick read.
I'm normally not a fan of short stories but thought I'd give this one a try and I wasn't disappointed.
I love it that the MC' s aren't perfect macho hunks. They are just regular people with flaws and problems.
"Once a boy shows you the stars, they're a hard act to follow."
Charlie is autistic and Anthony has his own discrepencies but their love goes beyond any of their idiosyncrasies.

This story made me laugh and broke my heart. Charlie, Anthony, Alice, Tim, Linda, Mel, Kiley and Princess Arabella wove their way into my heart, even though some mentioned had little page time, but especially Charlie.
This is a short book and I would have loved more with the ending. I have questions about Charlie and Anthony and Alice. Even so, it was a wonderful story, well written and touched my heart.
Claire Davis and Al Stewart have become an auto buy and I am enjoying working my way through their books.
Oh wow! This was so unexpected and beautiful and sweet! I mean, I guess in as much as it’s written by Claire Davis and Al Stewart, I can’t really say unexpected, they always write such interesting, quirky, unique characters with such refreshing sensitivity and depth. Still, even though I know that about these authors, I was pretty much in awe of the how beautifully this story is written. Each page was like unwrapping a precious gift and filled my heart with the most tender feelings.
Charlie Woods and Anthony Pace have known each other since they were five. Charlie’s mop of hair is blond; Anthony’s is red. They are both odd ducks, these boys, but Charlie is on the autism spectrum, while Anthony is just…peculiar. This is the story of their first day at college; it is also the story of their long friendship and how the greatest crisis of Charlie’s life changes them both.

This lovely, touching, amusing book made me think of Mark Haddon’s “The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time,” which I have both read and seen performed (brilliantly) on stage. What is important to note is that these two stories are set similarly, in the UK; and that that Charlie is clearly far more functional than Haddon’s teenaged protagonist. Charlie copes; having first been taught to cope by his Mum, Alice, and for the last thirteen years having been assisted in coping by his brilliant, quirky best friend Anthony. These two young men know each other. Anthony knows Charlie even better than Charlie knows Anthony. Charlie has many fears, one of which is that Anthony will decide one day that he doesn’t want to be his friend any more. Anthony, on the other hand, has his own ideas.

The only secondary players in this poignant little comic drama are Charlie’s Mum and Anthony’s family—his hippy parents, his medical student sister, her pre-school daughter Kylie and Kylie’s absurd Chihuahua Princess Arabella. The Pace family is messy and unconventional, and that seems to be a comfort to Charlie. It challenges everything Charlie needs to maintain order in his own life, and yet the Paces treat Charlie with such unstinting and unwavering love that he simply copes.

Well written, tightly narrated, filled with humanity.
