Okay, I love this series and this particular book made me cry in more than one of the chapters. Of course being a former Woman Marine and having a spouse in Vietnam at the same time really hit home. I know that many civilians can empathize with military families but I doubt they experience that visceral kick to the gut when hearing a loved one has become a “casualty”. I didn’t think the story of Vi and Joe would have the “punch” it did since neither was a favorite of mine in the first two books. Boy was I wrong! The chemistry is palpable from the start and you realize that these two love-damaged people would be insane to deny that it is more than that. Kate Aster has managed to combine her experience as a military spouse with the romance of a well-loved woman. I can’t wait to read Bess’s story!

Contract with a SEAL A Holiday Romance Special Ops Homefront Book 3 edition by Kate Aster Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
Violent needed a date for a party where her x was going to be. She had met Joe at her sister Laceys wedding. Violent called Joe and asked him to go. He said just remember I am leaving and going yo be gone a year. Don't get attached.
Having been married to a career military man, I could relate to the feelings and sentiment in this story. Never knowing from one day to another when or if they are going into harm's way is a fact of life for military spouses.
Kate Aster did a great job in showing the anguish and joy of military families as well as giving us a great romance novel.
Well done!!!
Kate, you have created such a wonderful family of characters. I hate it when I finish a story, but can’t wait to start the next one. I don’t want to spend a day away from these characters.
And thank you (and Chuck) for your thorough research when writing about our service men and women. Their triumphs, and their strength in the face of separation and devastation. God bless them all.
It is impossible not to fall in love with the characters in this book, which brings in strong, supportive relationships with family and friends. Aster has done a remarkable job of making the plot and characters engaging. I definitely recommend this book and will reread and recommend it. While it is the third book in the series, it is the first book I have read in the series and can easily standalone.
Vi is a television financial advisor who recently went through a very humiliating and public divorce from a producer who cheated on her just weeks into their marriage. She will be attending an annual dinner and needs a date that will redirect people's attention from the failed relationship with her ex. She met Joe at a wedding but hasn't seen or talked to him until she calls him to ask for a favor. Joe agrees to help her on one condition-that she return the favor by helping him out with a dinner he is hosting. Because Joe will be moving in a few weeks, he wants to keep things light. But with the blazing hot chemistry between them, they may have to redefine light.
Love this series. Really enjoying still seeing Joe and Vi in the Tribute series; which I also recommend. Ms. Aster manages to make me both laugh and cry while creating a story/series that I have now read three times. Can't wait for next Tribute installment, hope it is Lena. Each book is a reminder of the sacrifices our servicemen/women make to keep us safe. The injuries or casualties are presented realistically yet the sensitivity with which they are told make you appreciate every moment with your own loved ones. A must read author for me. Originally started these as a Unlimited download loved them so much actually purchased this series as well as the Tribute series.
A wonderful, wonderful story! I thoroughly enjoyed it! Thank you Ms. Aster! I had not read your previous stories but will be sure to get them this afternoon on my ! I took a chance with a new author and am thankful I did!
I have always enjoyed books with good dialogues, always hoping to find a story that isn't just filler for a sexual marathon through the pages. Don't get me wrong, I liked to be titillated as much as the next romance reader, but I have found that the older I have become, that unless the characters are hanging upside down from the ceiling, slathered in Jello, and screaming a Gregorian monk chant, I would rather read about how the characters (secondary as well as primary) interact, tease, flirt, argue, deal with life's baggage, and everyday issues as well as the unusual or extraordinary such as our military families go through (with an occasional sexual romp!) .
I have come late to the reading of military-based romances (huge romantic suspense reader - Roberts, Howard, Robards) and am glad to have found another author who treats our military with honor, integrity, and understanding. They are heroes, true, but also just men and women doing the job that they signed up to do without expecting recognition.
Ms. Aster, keep the words flowing! You have a fan in Alabama!
Five stars for the first 3 books in this series. I always can tell whether a book will be able to keep my interest within the first few pages, and wow, did they. I would put Kate Ashers Special OpsHomefront series up there with the amazing authors like Cindy Gerard, marliss Milton, Natasza Waters, Sharon Hamilton who have written some fabulous SEALs and spec. Ops books..There was a couple of things I actually liked better though, about this series over others I have read, and they are the real life situations. I share an illness that Maeve had, mine was 10 years ago, and I was 20 years older than her. So my problems after were not the same. I am being vague, because I don't want to give the the story line away. Also when I was single, I had the very similar romance that Vi does. Except mine was an air force pilot. He is retired now. A different war, different branch. These are real life situations. I especially loved how Kate keeps the other characters very involved throughout the series. I laughed so hard , I cried. I will start on book four today. This is a series I will certainly read again. It won't be long before Kate is not an independent writer. If you like military romance books, this series is an absolute must read.
