Antithesis Kacey Vanderkarr Books
I found myself wrapped up in Antithesis! The book was well written with interesting ideas and a little romance sprinkled in. It kept me guessing until the end, and wondering about my own opposite. I started this book Sunday night, and had a hard time putting it down to get to work on time. I found myself daydreaming about what was to come and couldn't wait to get home to finish it! Great book, awesome story and definitely recommend!

Antithesis Kacey Vanderkarr Books Reviews
First things first, this is great, high-concept story with unique twists and a fabulous premise. The main character, Gavyn, is a sweet, funny girl swept into alternative realities when a gorgeous stranger comes to "rescue her" from one of her other selves. Liam is a cocky, hilarious love interest with suprising layers of hidden depth.
I love the idea of parallel realities and the way these two characters ignite the pages in this unpredictable, fun adventure for young adults.
I really liked and would recommend this book! The ideas and world created are very unique and fascinating.
The characters are kind of blah and Liam's cockiness got on my nerves. Their romance was very young and not something I could relate too. I did have an appreciation for the way the author included the desperate lust most teenagers feel, but kept the characters responsible within their desires. I have an appreciation for the impact her characters can make on young adults.
The story kind of drug on and the book itself seemed young in the sense of the author's experience, but showed the incredible potential we know the author to have in the Reflection Pond series. I'm glad I read this book second to that because I developed a deep appreciation for how far the author has come.
I will always keep my eye out for anything written by this author as she has yet to disappoint me!!
Okay, how many of you are like, "What?" "Huh?" "Uhhhh..." That was exactly my reaction at first sight too. When i first read the synopsis, I was like, "Ummm...okay? So this is about Gavyn who has red hair and one arm..." Let me tell you though, Antithesis by Kacey Vanderkarr is so much more than this synopsis. In fact, that vagueness is what initially drew me in. I had to know more. So on one hand this was a stroke of genius for our YA world where by reading a back cover you can almost guess (sometimes with accuracy) where the story is going and how it will end. I mean really, what's the point of a story like that? I do hope that people don't pass up this book because of the simplistic blurb...but their loss I suppose!
Without giving too much away let me just tell you that Vanderkarr does a great job building the characters, the settings, the adrenaline and the anticipation. I personally love the banter between Gavyn and Liam as their journey unfolds. Gavyn is such a sassy-pants, strong but cynical girl with a major chip on her shoulder (who wouldn't if you grew up a self proclaimed frizzy "ginger" with one arm). As far as Gavyn, he clearly has a secret that he's hiding with his sarcasm and charm. That bad boy/knight-in-shining-armor/I-have-a-secret thing goes a long way! As far as the plot and storyline, let me just say that this paranormal-romance will have you wondering what ripples are caused by your small everyday actions.
If you're looking for a mind-bending read, add Antithesis to your e-reader and prepare yourself. Filled with unexpected twists and turns and swoon-worthy moments Antithesis is unlike the other "YA sci-fi romances" you will find out there. Antithesis will take you on a high-octane ride that will have you guessing until the very end!
I just want to say, I loved this book. It's nonstop action from page one, Gavyn is awesome and Liam is hotter than a tin roof in August. Nothing got done yesterday, because I had to read this book.
Gavyn has one arm, and while it's irritating and an inconvenience, she just gets on with her life. Her wild red hair is more of a problem in her eyes.
Liam is exactly the egotistical badboy you don't want your daughter to date, much less travel around with for months on end, alone. Things do get hot and steamy between them, but this is technically a YA sci-fi/romance.
The story is fast paced. Liam and Gavyn race through many different dimensions, and in each one they must deal with radically different versions of themselves, and Gavyn's best friends, Lena and Demetri. Some versions are out to kill them, and some versions must die.
Vanderkarr has done her homework on dimensional theories, and all of her plot twists, theories, and fictional science have a genuine, plausible feel to them. She never loses control of the plot, and it remains good science fiction from cover to cover.
This was an excellent read. Now I'm practically hopping from foot to foot, looking forward to her next release, every bit as much as I am the next Tad Williams book.
Excellent.
How to review this book without spoilers?
First thing, I just knew that I would like this book after reading the synopsis. After reading it once, I decided that it was worth the risk. After reading it twice, I said go for it. That was it! No third times the charm here.
So if we go by reading the synopsis, most people would be thrown off. I'm all for trying to figure out what's going on.
Alternate realities? I'm usually not a fan because I seem to not be able to keep up with everything. I did, however, enjoy this. I think it has to do with the main character.
Gavyn is why I kept reading. She has a bit of a sarcastic and snarky mind, which I found highly amusing. She's also not your typical MC in a YA book. She has red hair, freckles, and abnormalities that you don't usually get from YA books. Genius idea if you ask me. Had she been this "perfect" character, I probably would have stopped halfway through.
Different realities with lots going on. If you love YA Fantasy/Paranormal/Sci-fi/Romance, then this is definitely the book for you.
